Wondering “Should I Start a Blog”? Here are Reasons Why You Should…

Share this! Your friends will love it...

Have you been wondering lately, “should I start a blog?”, or even “why would I start a blog?”

I’ve been there…

Almost 4 years ago, I didn’t even know what blogging was. I had heard about blogging terminologies, but I didn’t have the slightest idea as to what a blog was or what a blog was even good for.

A little back story…

A registered nurse by trade, after I had my second child I found myself holding my little girl and sobbing at the thought of dropping her off at daycare at only 2 months-old to return back to work.

After A LOT of research my husband came across a few blogging articles that sparked my interest. I then decided to invest in a few blogging resources that could give me a road-map to follow… and that was the beginning of all that followed.

Subsequently, my blog took off and I made profit almost instantly.

Fast forward almost 4 years later, two blogs, one ebook, multiple electronic products, and a whole lot of gratitude for this unexpected found gem…. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else!

It is an incredible honor to be able to share with you what I know so that you too can reach your goal.

So first things first…. let’s discuss why you should start a blog in the first place, why maybe you shouldn’t, and address the things that might be holding you back from doing so.

Should I start a blog, how to start start a blog

Reasons to Start a Blog

1. Creative outlet

Sometimes you just need a place to speak your mind. A place where you can share your thoughts, ideas, and a piece of your heart.

Sure you can choose a personal journal, but what if in the process you can reach others that can benefit from whatever you choose to write about.

Pretty neat, huh?

As for me, becoming a stay-at-home-mom for my 3-year-old and 2-month-old at the time, blogging became a much-needed creative outlet.

Don’t get me wrong, it was an incredible blessing to be able to stay home with my children. However, from a professional and creative side of things blogging gave me a little piece of myself back.

2. Helping Others

Sharing information with others you are knowledgeable about can help other people.

Believe it or not you can help change lives and make a positive impact on other people’s lives who can relate to you message.

Above all the other reasons listed here as to why you would start a blog, this one in particular is one of the most important ones to me.

3. Product sale and promotion

A blog is a fantastic venue if there is a product or service you wish to sell. Not only does it give you the ability to showcase it, but it keeps your readers up to date with upcoming products, promotions, descriptive posts, social media sharing, and so on.

If you are an aspiring author, a blog can be the perfect platform to showcase your work.

A blog allows you create an audience and connect with them. It also enables you to sell your books directly from your website without having to compromise its price.

Having a blog for your business it is imperative to help it scale, grow, and reach new clients/customers.

4. Passion, talent, and/or knowledge

Do you know a lot about something in particular and would like to help other people learn about it?

A blog is the perfect place to do that. Whether it be DIY, fashion, cooking, finances, parenting, product review, you name it!

Blogging allows you to pick a niche (or a few), and reach a specific audience.

5. Profit, profit, profit

Combining all of the aforementioned reasons as to why you would start a blog, makes a powerhouse money-maker.

Blogging makes it possible to make a few extra bucks.

In fact, it can even become a full-blown business for those who pursuit it full force. Through ads, affiliate programs, product sales, working with brands, product reviews, creating your own eProducts and so on, you can definitely make a pretty penny.

Here are all the ways you can make money blogging!

Blogging allows you to do what you love while being financially compensated for it from the comfort of your own home.

So, as you can see there are various reasons why to start a blog.

Whether it be one of the aforementioned reasons that work for you, or a few of them combined, the possibilities are endless.

With that said, not everyone is cut to do this blogging things after all… Let’s see why you shouldn’t start a blog.

1. You prefer a 9-5 job

Not everyone enjoys being their own boss. Some people prefer accountability and structure by having someone else dictate what they can and cannot do.

If that sounds like you, then blogging might not be a good fit for you.

2. You hate writing

Okay let’s be real… blogging involves a lot of writing. Creating good and engaging content is part of every successful blog.

Do you have to be a great writer? Nope. In fact, as you move along your blogging journey chances are you will improve your writing skill, and find your “writer’s voice”.

However, if you despise writing altogether, blogging might not be a good fit for you.

3. You despise working alone

Blogging could feel pretty lonely at times. After all, you will be creating and running your own business.

But, you don’t have to feel totally alone.

There is a wonderful community of bloggers out there (Facebook Groups for Bloggers). They are great for networking, learning, motivating you, inspiration you, and making friends with the same interests.

But for the most part, you will be working alone.

So, now that you know the reasons why you should or shouldn’t start a blog… Let’s go over some of the hurdles that might be preventing you from getting there.

I want to start by saying that most, if not all, of the following reasons crossed my mind at some point. It took battling through each and every one of them to finally go for it.

“I don’t know a thing about blogging” or “I don’t have a clue how to start a blog”

Needless to say, blogging can be very intimidating.

There is a TON to learn, especially for those of us with no prior web design, marketing, journalism, or computer background.

With that said, it’s not impossible. There are plenty of blogging resources available today that can help you get started and help you keep learning as you go along.

Don’t forget, “Blogcabulary Plus: The Ultimate Blogging Terminology, Reference, and Resource eBook” was created specifically for you, with zero knowledge base about blogging, to help guide you by the hand.

Also, remember you have full access to my FREE 7-day email course which will walk you step-by-step how to start a money-making blog. This course will walk you through picking your niche and domain all the way to how to make money blogging.

… or if you rather invest in a course that walks you step by step on what hosting provider to choose all the way to bringing traffic to you blog, consider Blog by Number by Suzi Whitford.

However, the biggest learning tool is working at it hands on. I can recommend a dozen things that can help you, but putting them to practice is key.

“My niche is very competitive and/or oversaturated”

That’s a fact for everything in life. Chances are that for anything you choose to do someone is already doing it, and doing it better!

One thing to remember is that they too started from scratch, with just a vision and a lot of hard work.

But what I’ve realized is that you don’t need 380 million people to buy your product or read your blogs (although that would be fabulous.. haha).  All you need is a few hundred that love what you do and help you spread the word.

Only YOU can make what YOU do. Even if it is the same product as 10,000 other people. Only you can give it your touch, which might happen to be what someone else is looking for.

Only you can say what you need to say, which might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. Just be yourself and the rest will follow.

The key to a successful blog of any niche is to answers questions and help solve problems for your audience. That is the kind of content that people will search for, read from, and buy from.

“I’m not an expert in anything”

No one said you had to be. Listen here, I am not an expert at parenting, but after two little kiddos and a LOT of trial and error, I can assure you I can teach you a thing or two, specially if you are a new parent.

Even, if you aren’t a new parent, there are things that I’ve tried and that have worked for me that you might have not even heard of.

Moral of the story, you don’t have to be an expert or have a diploma to talk about something you feel passionate about.

You just have to know a little bit more that the person you are trying to relay the message to.

“I am too busy”

If having my 5-year old pulling on my leg asking for something every five minutes while also catering to all the needs of my wild 2-year-old as I attempt to place the finishing touches of this article isn’t being busy, then I don’t know what busy is.

I sometimes feel like I’m stuck in the “Family Guy- Stewie Mom, Mum, Mommy” scene while I’m writing some of these posts (if you haven’t seen it, YouTube it! It’s hilarious).

As a wife, a mother of two, blogger,  and former nurse, I know a thing or two about finding time for it all.

While finding a good balance seems hard at times (and believe me it happens often), it’s not unreachable. The key is to try to set designated times for each responsibility, and allowing for some flexibility as you go along.

Designate a few minutes a day to work on your blog and modify the length and frequency as you go along.

Early mornings, after the kids go to bed, skip a TV show you watch often- there are always loopholes of time you can use to your advantage.

Some days I don’t get to even open my computer, and that is okay. At this point in my blogging journey I am my own boss… and the only deadlines I have are those that I set for myself.

You go at your own pace and work on reaching your own goals. It’s a beautiful thing.

“I don’t have the financial means”

Blogging can be completely free.

There are websites that allow you to do so without charging you a penny.

However, free isn’t always best as I’m sure you know.

Investing a few bucks on good products for your blog, such as web hosting and a beautiful theme for your site, are a few examples of inexpensive resources that will go a long way.

“What if I fail?”

Failing is not starting at all, in my opinion.

We fail when we allow fear to keep us from reaching our goals.

One way or another we are all guilty of this at some point in our lives, I admit that. But honestly, what’s the worst that can happen?

When you weigh your options, the “worst” that can happen doesn’t even come close to the “best” that could. You got this!

Never in a million years did I think that blogging would be something I would be so passionate about. Never did I imagine I would generate a passive income stream while I played with my children.

Staying home with my kiddos while perusing this found love for profitable blogging and helping others do the same, is in fact a dream come true.
