How to Manage Your Business’s Social Media (when you’re not motivated!)
Have you ever been in a phase where you are just not feeling it?? It can definitely be a challenge to manage social media when you’re not motivated!
You know you should be “getting after it” with the social media for your business. But…. You would rather put it off and do just about anything else.
Maybe the busyness of life has gotten overwhelming for a season. Or perhaps you’ve become discouraged in your business (or in your life!) Perhaps you don’t know what action steps to be taking, so you feel paralyzed.
Trust me, we ALL get in slumps sometimes.
If anyone says that they are motivated all the time, I don’t believe it for a second.
This year, my family went through a HUGE transition – We moved several states away to be closer to family. Though we were excited for all that was in store and for the new adventure before us, there was a season of TOTAL AND COMPLETE OVERWHELM.
Oh my word, the amount of details we walked through – selling a house, packing, moving, buying a house, (all while staying with family in the meantime.) BLAH.
Admittedly, I become sidetracked in my business for a while. I felt good about the move, but overwhelmed in regard to my business and all that I was NOT accomplishing.
I can imagine that you’ve been in the same place now and then.
I want to share with you a few tricks that I have learned that are effective in my life, and perhaps they can help you through your season of overwhelm too.
FIRST: Let go of guilt.
If you are a person that tends toward guilt, (like I do!), then this will resonate with you.
Guilt over what you “should” be accomplishing will not help you get to your goal. Comparing yourself to others in business will only cause the guilt to grow.
Let any guilt go. All of it.
You are where you are; and without shame, you are moving forward.

SECOND: How can you change by 1% today?
Ask this question about all parts of your business that you are wanting to improve.
We are going to take a very incremental, intentional step toward getting things on track.
The reason we are doing this by 1% is that we are unmotivated or overwhelmed for a REASON. There are real-life factors or habits that are keeping you from accomplishing what you want.
It is not realistic to change everything about your life and start crushing it in business.
I know that when I take the approach of changing everything in my life and business to find success, I fail quickly.
Many of the ideas behind this idea come from the book Atomic Habits, by James Clear. If you are looking to make some changes in your life or business, this was one of the BEST books I have read on the topic. HIGHLY recommend!
We are instead going to take one little step. Keep everything else in life that way it is. As that 1% becomes a habit, then you can change 1% more.
What is the 1% you could change today? Here are some ideas to get you thinking:
- Schedule 1 Facebook post
- Set up 1 Facebook ad
- Schedule out your social media for tomorrow
- Wake up 10 minutes earlier
- Set a timer for 10 minutes and spend that time on your business
- Create 1 Pinterest board for your business
- Edit your Instagram bio
- Brainstorm 1 blog post to write
- Clean up your workspace so there’s no overwhelm there

The truth is, you could apply this same principle to any area of life. If you are wanting to improve your health, lose weight, learn something new, conquer household chores, etc.
Anything you want to improve, you could change by 1% today.
After a while you’ll be amazed where that 1% will take you!
I have found that after a while, the 1% changes become easier. They grow into a habit that become your everyday life. Momentum is a powerful thing. Make a small change and see where it leads!
